Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 25, 2026

Long Island Games (www.ligames.fun) is a free browser-based puzzle and gaming site. We respect your privacy and have designed the site to collect as little data as possible. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the rights you have — including rights under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK GDPR. For the purposes of those laws, Long Island Games is the "data controller" of the personal data described here, and you can reach us via our contact page.

Information We Collect

You can play every game on this site without creating an account or providing any personal information. Here is everything the site stores, depending on how you use it:

  • Without an account: Some games save preferences and statistics in your browser's local storage. That data stays on your device and never reaches our servers.
  • Session cookies: We use a session cookie for sign-in and game functionality (such as multiplayer sessions). It is deleted when you close your browser. We do not use tracking or advertising cookies.
  • If you create an account: We store your email address. Sign-in is passwordless — we email you a one-time sign-in link; the link tokens expire quickly and are deleted from our systems within 7 days. We also record the time and IP address of your most recent sign-in to help protect your account.
  • Saved game progress: If you are signed in, your puzzle progress and game statistics are saved to your account on our server so you can continue on another device.
  • Book codes: If you redeem a code printed in one of our puzzle books, we record that your account unlocked that book.
  • Security logs: To prevent abuse, we temporarily log the IP address and time of sign-in link requests and code redemption attempts. These logs are deleted within 7 days.
  • Promotional short links: If you follow one of our own short links (for example from a book or advertisement), we log the IP address, link, and time so we can count how our links are used. These logs are used only for aggregate statistics, never for profiling.
  • Contact form: If you write to us, we receive whatever you include in your message, along with an email address if you provide one so we can reply.

How We Use Information (and Our Lawful Bases)

Under the EU and UK GDPR we rely on the following lawful bases:

  • Performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)): providing your account, emailing sign-in links, saving your progress, and honoring redeemed book codes.
  • Legitimate interests (Article 6(1)(f)): keeping the site secure, rate-limiting abusive requests, and counting the use of our own promotional links. These uses are low-risk, expected, and never involve profiling or marketing.
  • Consent (Article 6(1)(a)): creating an account is entirely optional — you choose whether to give us your email address, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.

We do not send marketing emails, we do not build profiles, and we make no automated decisions about you.

Third-Party Services

  • Hosting: The site runs on servers operated by our hosting provider, which processes data on our behalf under its data-processing terms.
  • Fonts: All fonts are served from our own servers. Your browser makes no requests to Google Fonts or any other third-party font service when you visit our site.
  • No analytics or tracking: We do not use Google Analytics, Facebook Pixel, or any other third-party tracking services.
  • No advertisements: We do not display ads or use ad-tracking networks.

Data Sharing and International Transfers

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal data, and we never have. We share data only with the service providers named above, as needed to run the site, or if the law requires it. Long Island Games is operated from the United States; if you use the site from the EU, EEA, or UK, the data described above is transferred to and processed in the United States because that is necessary to provide the service you request.

Data Retention

  • Sign-in link tokens and security/rate-limit logs: deleted within 7 days.
  • Account data (email, unlocked books, saved progress): kept until you ask us to delete your account.
  • Short-link statistics: kept only as long as needed for aggregate reporting.
  • Local storage on your device: under your control — clear it any time via your browser settings.

Your Rights (EU, EEA, and UK Visitors)

If you are in the EU, EEA, or UK, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you, and receive a copy in a portable format;
  • Correct inaccurate data;
  • Erase your data ("right to be forgotten") — we will delete your account and everything tied to it on request;
  • Restrict or object to processing based on our legitimate interests;
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting prior processing.

To exercise any of these rights, use our contact page. We will respond within one month. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority — in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk); in the EU/EEA, your national data protection authority.

Children's Privacy

Our puzzles and games are suitable for all ages, and every game can be played without an account and without providing any personal information. The site shows no ads, uses no tracking, and does not profile anyone — child or adult.

  • We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, consistent with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
  • In the UK, accounts are intended only for users aged 13 or over (the UK's age of digital consent). We aim to follow the standards of the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code: data minimisation, privacy by default, and no nudging or profiling.
  • In the EU/EEA, accounts are intended only for users who have reached the age of digital consent in their country (between 13 and 16, depending on the member state), unless a parent or guardian has given consent.
  • If you are under the applicable age, please enjoy the games without creating an account and do not send us your email address.
  • If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has given us personal information, contact us via the contact page and we will delete it promptly.

Security

Accounts use one-time emailed sign-in links instead of passwords, so there is no password for anyone to steal. Sign-in and redemption attempts are rate-limited, and short-lived tokens and security logs are purged automatically.

Changes to This Policy

If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted on the site.
